This assignment from Muncipal Prints Company combines so many things I love. Maps, astronomy, nature, poster design. The opportunity to nerd out on a subject that has always been close to my heart was a true passion project.

The print was inspired by vintage maps and star charts from the 30s through the 60s. To start, I had to make myself a graph and plot each star (673 in total, but who’s counting?) by its coordinates. References like textboooks, planispheres, and good ol’ Wikipedia made sure the chart is as accurate as possible. The resulting lithograph is a work of art for your wall, and also a handy dandy reference for your amateur stargazing.

Reference material used to ensure the accuracy of the star chart.

Combined Northern and Southern night skies.
